Our Standard Females
Here are our standard females. We don't usually breed them all at the same time - often some of them are paired up while others are being rested.
Adult Females
Rollie
Rollie is an old but sweet natured chinchilla. She was awarded Reserve
Adult Standard in the National 1998. She was bred by Lizz Benson.
She is the mother of Twister.
Status: Paired with Moka.
Highest Award: Reserve Best Adult Standard.
Sapphire (Saffy)
Saffy is an older breeding male who came from another breeder. She was
originally bred by Paul Spooner. She had recently weaned 2 kits before coming
to live with us and had not had a lot of rest before she arrived. She produced a littler of 3 kits during the summer and showed herself to be a great mum. Her daughter is currently staying with her. Her sons were weaned and are currently available for sale as a pair.
Status: Resting, with daughter.
Highest Award: Champ 1st Adult Standard Female.
Zia [Violet Carrier]
Zia is Fern and Mendoza's first daughter. She looks and behaves quite like
her mum but she has inherited some rather nice attributes from her dad too.
She is currently paired with the violet Ulysses.
Status: Being introduced to Neo.
Highest Award: 12/11/06 - Novice 2nd Young Standard Female.
Asisah
Asisah, Ashley's daughter, was a single kit and she was found while cage
cleaning. She was not expected, but she was strong and determined. She is
an inquisitive little girl, but used to be a bit snappy and impatient. She
is much calmer than she used to be, and is much easier to handle when she's
not had anything bothering her. She did surprising well at a show and the
award she was given was higher than that given to either of her parents.
Status: Resting, with mum.
Highest Award: 11/02/07 - Novice 2nd Young Standard Female.
Kalli
Kalli is Kazzi's mate, and they arrived together already paired up. She
was bred by Lizz Benson. Kalli is a very sweet natured and patient girl
but she is not fond of being picked up. Over the summer she had 2 sons,
twin black velvet and brown velvet boys who have both grown into very attractive
looking chinchillas.
Status: Resting, with 2 daughters.
Highest Award: Champ 3rd Adult Standard Female.
Mab
Mab was our first standard female chinchilla. She came from Rich at Etherdale
Chinchillas. We went up to see him to collect Gretzky and were lucky enough
to come back with her as well. She was originally intended to be paired
with Kain, but we opted to but Mab and Gretzky together as they were 2 lines
that Rich hadn't tried together yet. She had 3 kits in her first litter
- 1 dark male who sadly died a few days later after a kit fight over milk
supplies, and 2 medium-dark females who went on to thrive. They are Mary-Kate
and Ashley. Mab has had 2 more single kits since then. More recently she
has been having a long rest and has recently been paired up with Denny,
a violet.
Status: Paired with Kain.
Highest Award: 07/11/04 - Champ 3rd Young Standard Female.
Ashley
Ashley was bred by us and has a lovely personality. She is really friendly
and likes to jump into your arms and have cuddles. She has had 1 litter
to date - a single daughter who looked a bit browny to begin with but who
has recently turned very blue. She looks more like her mum now. Ashley has
been a really good mum. She and her daughter are currently living together.

Highest Award: 19/03/06 - Novice 3rd Young Standard Female.
Mary-Kate
Mary-Kate is Ashley's slightly bigger twin sister. She generally looks
a bit better than Ashley even though Ashley was awarded a slightly higher
award. She is a big friendly girl.
Status: Paired with Whizz.
Highest Award: 19/03/06 - Novice HC Young Standard Female.
Twister (Twist)
Twist is a new addition to Elm Chinchillas and came from Laura Cox of Blueprint
Chinchillas where she was known as Daisy. She was bred by Lizz Benson and
was initially called Twister, we think because her mum was called Rollie.
James preferred the name Twist (in keeping with a Spaced sitcom theme),
so she reverted back to her original name. She has been shown but not won
any awards herself, but her parentage is good and her previous offspring
have been little stunners.
Status: Paired with Kazzi.
Bella
Bella is an American import. She is a great mum but can be very protective
over babies. She will glare disapprovingly at you if you go near them and
then try to spray you if you don't take the hint! Apart from that she's
a good natured chinchilla really.
Status: Resting.
Saffy's daughter
Saffy had 3 kits - 2 standards and a wilson white. Her siblings live with Nicki in Cardiff. Saffy's daughter is likely to grow as big as her mum if not bigger. her colouring is good but she is a bit narrow in the shoulders. She is such a finger-nail nibbler!
Status: Staying with her mum.
Kalli's daughter
This girl is one of 2 kits. Her brother is a brown velvet. It's tricky to see how she'll turn out but at the moment she is a decent size and has nice strong fur. She is quite timid and will usually run to the back of the cage when you go to see her, but will then come around to the front out of curiosity.
